Whiteknights Steps Forward on the Journey to Net Zero

16th May 2025
As a proud member of Bellevue Place Education Trust (BPET), Whiteknights Primary School has taken exciting steps towards a greener future as part of the Net Zero Accelerator Programme (NZAP) Pathfinder. This national initiative, led by Let's Go Zero and funded by the Department for Education, supports schools in making meaningful, measurable progress toward net zero carbon emissions.
Over the past months, we’ve worked closely with sustainability experts and our BPET Trust colleagues to assess our school’s energy use, carbon footprint, and areas for improvement. The result is a detailed roadmap for reducing our environmental impact—without compromising educational excellence.
Steps we’ve taken to reduce our environmental impact, include:
  • Installing solar panels, helping us generate clean energy and reduce our reliance on the grid
  • Installing electric vehicle (EV) chargersto support sustainable transport options
  • Reducing our overall energy consumptionthrough careful monitoring and efficiency measures
  • Cutting down food and general wastewith new recycling and waste reduction initiatives across the school
These changes are just the beginning. Guided by the support of the NZAP Pathfinder programme, we’re working towards a longer-term vision for carbon neutrality, energy efficiency, and climate education. Together with the Trust, we are committed to becoming a school that not only educates for the future—but protects it.
“Our journey to net zero is about more than infrastructure. It’s about modelling the kind of future we want our children to grow up in.”
