Whiteknights Celebrates Sustainability at Special Net Zero Event

13th June 2025
Whiteknights Primary School was proud to host a very special event today, celebrating our ongoing commitment to sustainability and our journey towards becoming a Net Zero school.
We were honoured to welcome a number of distinguished guests, including the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, Kerry McCarthy; our local MP, Yuan Yang; representatives from the Net Zero Accelerator Pathfinder Programme; BPET CEO, Mark Greatrex; BPET Head of Operations, Jane Aust; Chair of the Whiteknights Governing Board, Fraser McCarthy; and members of the local press and media.
The day began with a Key Stage 2 assembly led by Ms Yang, followed by a guided tour of our school grounds. Guests were able to see first-hand our sustainability initiatives in action — from solar panels and EV chargers to rewilding zones and energy-saving practices embedded in daily school life.
A highlight of the event was a creative workshop led by a member of the Let’s Go Zero team. Ms McCarthy and Ms Yang joined our enthusiastic School/Eco Council members to design thought-provoking posters exploring practical ways we can all help protect the environment.
What a fantastic way to celebrate our progress so far! As a school, we are proud to be part of both the Let’s Go Zero campaign and the Net Zero Accelerator Pathfinder Programme, which support schools in reducing their carbon footprint and building a more sustainable future.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all who attended and contributed to this inspiring day. Together, we are growing greatness — and a greener future.
