Reception's Roaring Week of Chinese New Year Fun!

30th January 2025
This week, Reception have been immersed in the exciting world of Chinese New Year celebrations. They learned about the fascinating tradition of naming each year after an animal and explored the significance of the Chinese zodiac, discovering how different animals are celebrated in Chinese culture.
They also discovered that red is considered a lucky colour, symbolising happiness and prosperity, and learned about the tradition of giving red envelopes, often filled with money or sweets, as a gesture of good fortune.
One of the highlights of the week was a lively dragon dance workshop, where the children had the opportunity to learn more about this traditional dance.
The creative fun didn’t stop there! Reception also crafted beautiful lanterns using red and gold materials and made their own dragon puppets. In the afternoon, the children enjoyed a delicious banquet. They devoured their noodles and rice crackers using their chopsticks to eat them.
It’s been a week full of learning, dancing, and creating, and the children are already looking forward to exploring more about the world around them!
