Checkmate! Whiteknights Triumphs at BPET Queen’s Gambit Tournament

On Wednesday 12 March, Rivermead Primary School played host to an exciting BPET Queen’s Gambit Berkshire hub tournament, welcoming players from Evendons Primary School and Whiteknights Primary School.
Pupils from Years 4 to 6 (Aiden, Danielle, Atom, Daryl, Ashrith and Tom) battled it out over five intense rounds, demonstrating impressive concentration, strategic thinking, and sportsmanship. After a series of closely contested matches, Whiteknights Primary School emerged victorious, securing the top trophy with the highest average score.
Individual achievements were also celebrated, with the top three scorers from across the hub receiving gold, silver, and bronze medals.

Gold: Joel (Rivermead Primary School) – 14/15 points Silver: Florrie (Evendons Primary School), Tom and Aiden (Whiteknights Primary School) – 13/15 points Bronze: Oscar (Evendons Primary School), Albe and Theo (Rivermead Primary School) – 12/15 points
A huge well done to all the pupils who took part and made the tournament a fantastic success as well as a special thank you to Chess in Schools and Communities (CSC) and the staff who supported the players throughout the event.
