Celebrating a Very Special Birthday: Mrs Lee Turns 70

This week, we had the joy of celebrating a special milestone—our school librarian, Mrs Lee, turned 70 on Tuesday! Her dedication to Whiteknights Primary spans more than three decades, and her impact on our school community has been truly extraordinary. 

Mrs Lee’s journey with Whiteknights began as a devoted ‘reading mum’, with all three of her children attending the school. Her passion for books has been the golden thread running through her time here. When our school library was established in 1994, Mrs Lee played a key role in cataloguing every book, laying the foundation for the much-loved resource it is today. Over the years, she has nurtured and cared for the library, ensuring it remains a welcoming and vibrant space for all our pupils. 

Reflecting on her time at Whiteknights, Mrs Lee shared some of her fondest memories. One that stands out was in 2000 when the Year 6 cohort wrote letters to the Prime Minister, suggesting items for a time capsule to be opened in the future. Their ideas were so well received that one of the Year 6 classes was invited to Downing Street, where they had the opportunity to meet Peter Mandelson (who is now the British Ambassador to the United States). As Mrs Lee was working with Year 6 at the time, she was asked to accompany the class—a truly special experience and a day to remember. 

Another cherished memory was a more personal one. When her eldest son was in Year 1, he came home from school one day wearing his PE shorts, having somehow misplaced his school shorts. The next morning, another parent approached her, holding an extra pair—it turned out her son had gone home wearing two! This small mix-up led to a lasting friendship between the two boys—and between their families. 

As we celebrate Mrs Lee’s milestone birthday, we also celebrate her incredible contribution to Whiteknights. Happy 70th Birthday, Mrs Lee! Here’s to many more chapters filled with stories, inspiration, and cherished memories.
