The Government provides funds to schools to help children from families with lower income, or in challenging situations. This funding is called Pupil Premium.
Pupil Premium is additional to main school funding; evidence suggests that this is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantaged pupils reaches the children who need it the most.
Schools decide how the Pupil Premium is spent, since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility. Schools are held accountable for how they have used the additional funding to support children from disadvantaged families: read more on the Department for Education website.
For the current academic year, Whiteknights Primary School will receive £115,440 to support disadvantaged pupils.
We spend our finances on initiatives which give pupils the best possible chance to make good progress at school. The money is supporting booster classes, before and after school clubs, school visits (including residential trips), swimming, holiday activities for vulnerable families and ensuring that Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) are on hand in every class to support learning. We review our strategy for using the pupil premium funding at the beginning of each academic year.
Early Years Pupil Premium (EYPP) is an additional sum of money paid to schools for children of families in receipt of certain benefits. Early Years Pupil Premium children may also be eligible for free school meals if they are attending Nursery for a full day.We spend our EYPP finances on initiatives that give pupils the best possible chance to make a good start in Nursery.
