Year 2 Scientists on a Bug Hunt!

27th January 2025
Year 2 have embarked on an exciting scientific journey this half term, exploring Living Things and Their Habitats. From the depths of the ocean to the tiniest microhabitats in our school grounds, they are discovering how different creatures are perfectly suited to their environments.
Last week, the children took their learning outside with a bug hunt, searching for minibeasts and observing the microhabitats they call home. They carefully examined logs, leaves, and soil, identifying the tiny creatures that thrive in these spaces. Through this hands-on exploration, they are broadening their understanding of how different habitats provide food, shelter, and protection for living things.
As their learning continues, Year 2 will be studying habitats across the Animal Kingdom, comparing those found on land and in water. They will learn about Jacques Cousteau, the famous marine biologist, and his groundbreaking work in ocean exploration.
We are excited to see Year 2 develop their scientific skills, curiosity, and appreciation for the natural world—we can’t wait to find out what they discover next!
