Introducing Our New School Values: Challenge, Wonder and Aspire
18th October 2024
We are delighted to introduce our new core values which are inspired by our school motto:
“Growing Greatness”
At Whiteknights we believe that every child has the potential to achieve remarkable things, and with the right support and encouragement, they can thrive. Our new values of Challenge, Wonder, and Aspire reflect this vision and will guide our approach to education, ensuring that every child experiences an inspiring, holistic learning journey.
Why these Values?
Challenge Growth comes from embracing challenges. Learning should stretch imaginations and push boundaries. Represented by the bridge, challenge is about crossing from what is known to what is possible. Our curriculum is designed to develop resilience, problem-solving and perseverance by empowering our pupils to tackle future obstacles with confidence.
Wonder Curiosity is at the heart of lifelong learning. Represented by the torch, wonder is the light of discovery when children are encouraged to explore, ask questions, and seek new knowledge. We want our pupils to experience awe and excitement about the world around them, nurturing creativity, imagination, and a love for learning.
Aspire Represented by the bullseye, aspire is about setting ambitious goals and believing in the possibility of achieving them. We encourage our pupils to aim high, both academically and personally, and to continually reach for new heights. Aspiration drives us to support every child in realising their full potential.
As a member of the Bellevue Place Education Trust (BPET), Whiteknights Primary School shares BPET’s core values of Learn, Enjoy, Succeed. These values complement our own perfectly. Challenge encourages children to Learn through exploration and growth, equipping them with the resilience to take on new opportunities. Wonder connects to the joy of learning, ensuring that pupils Enjoy their educational journey by fostering curiosity. Finally, Aspire mirrors BPET’s goal of helping every child Succeed, motivating them to aim high and persevere to reach their potential.
What Next? Incorporating our Values through New Projects.
As we continue to grow in greatness, we are embedding Challenge, Wonder and Aspire into all aspects of school life, including exciting new projects and areas of focus:
Sustaining Academic Excellence in Reading, Writing, and Maths Continuing our tradition of excellence in core subjects aligns with our value of Challenge. We regularly review and update our teaching cycles, guided by the latest pedagogical research, to ensure the best outcomes for every child. Through dedicated staff development, we strive for Aspire by continually improving our practice to help pupils achieve academic excellence.
Learning to Play Musical Instruments Our new music programme fosters Wonder by encouraging creativity and exploration through music. From Year 1 to Year 6, pupils will learn six different instruments, gaining both practical skills and the ability to read music. This initiative nurtures a lifelong appreciation for music and Aspire encourages pupils to reach new artistic heights as they develop confidence and ability.
Expanding Computing Skills With technology playing a central role in the future, we are investing in new laptops, ensuring that every pupil has access to a device by the end of the next two years. This forward-thinking initiative embodies Challenge, as pupils engage with cutting-edge technology, and Aspire, as we equip them with vital digital skills that will open doors in secondary school and beyond.
The Knighthood Scheme Our Challenge, Wonder and Aspire values come to life through The Knighthood Scheme: our citizenship programme fostering positive contributions to the school and the wider community. It will be launched in January 2025 from Year 1 through to Year 6. Pupils will earn the titles of Page, Squire, and Knight through tasks and activities in school and at home, encouraging them to Aspire to become responsible, thoughtful members of society. This scheme challenges children to grow as individuals while inspiring them to contribute to something bigger than themselves.
